About

My dream is to help people through the law. I had to set aside becoming a lawyer, but I keep living that dream in whatever way I can right now. This site is the record of those reckless attempts on my way to becoming a Legal Structure Strategist and a Legal Engineer.

The dream

I was taught to have a dream, to pursue it, and never to let it go. Mine was to help others through the law, and for a long time I took that to mean becoming a lawyer.

The year I had to defer law school, I realized the dream was never the degree. It was the helping. Some of that work needs a license, and it can wait until I have one. Much of it does not.

What I write about

What I learn from my work and from the other reckless attempts around it. This record is my research archive and my portfolio.

  • Unusual cases from corporate practice, and internal controls
  • Automating legal and administrative work with AI: how it was built and what it achieved
  • Study notes, from contract review onward
  • Contracts and rights in practice, from helping artists
  • The legal side of church administration
  • And the thinking in between

Principles

  • No legal advice. I am not a lawyer, and what I write is a record, not a legal opinion. Confirm anything that matters with qualified counsel.
  • Structure, not judgment. My work is not to reach legal conclusions but to design the rules, procedures, and tools that make sure what the law requires actually gets done.
  • Cases are anonymized. Anything that could identify a company or a person is removed or changed.
  • Corrections are dated. When I get something wrong, I fix it and note when.
  • Views are my own. They are not those of my employer or the people I work with.
